About GilLig

Gillig is an American manufacturer of heavy duty buses based in Liverpool, California. Founded in 1890 as a carriage and wagon shop, Gillig has continued to innovate producing car bodies, car tops, hearses, trucks, and early model buses. In 1970 Gillig produced its first school bus, which was their main product until the late ‘70s. In the 1980’s Gillig introduces their first transit bus. The low floor transit bus, with several propulsion systems and styles is still available today.

Today, Gillig is a leader in sustainability, making a significant impact on the transit industry. Their ‘Green Initiative’ focuses on reducing emissions to zero in both their factories and buses, with a strong emphasis on fully electric powertrain vehicles. This commitment to sustainability and performance drives innovation, aligning perfectly with our mission at VTM as we strive to lead in innovation and technology.

What they do for us

GILLIG has proudly served as the title sponsor of the VTM Electric Vehicle team since 2023, playing a crucial role in our success. Their support has enabled us to acquire the materials needed to build our car and achieve remarkable milestones. With GILLIG as our partner, we secured an impressive 8th place finish at Michigan in their first year as our title sponsor, followed by a 13th place finish in a highly competitive second year, and most recently, a 1st place victory at Formula South hosted by Michelin.

This year, GILLIG has gone above and beyond, expanding their support beyond financial contributions to include technical and supply assistance. They have generously offered their time and expertise, helping us locate stock materials and providing technical templates for critical high-level decisions. Their guidance has been invaluable, particularly in our electric powertrain development and powertrain package selection and design.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with GILLIG and celebrating many more successes together
